Windy Blows

January 3, 2012

Well, after a wonderful and very restful Christmas holiday it was finally time to go back to work today. I’ve had so much wonderful sleep over the holiday, so I thought that I would try to carry that on and had a very early night last night. Unfortunately I didn’t have a brilliant night’s sleep because the house was so cold because the heating had been off for over a week. I ended up sleeping in PJs, socks and a thick jumper! It’s also crazily windy here in Leeds at the moment, which meant that there were a few funny noises in the night that kept me alert.

The wind also led to quite an amusing walk into work. Just outside my office is a really bad wind tunnel, where the wind whips around. It was so gusty this morning that I could hardly stand up. I’m doing a 5k time trail at running club tonight, which could be interesting if the high winds continue. I don’t think that there are going to be any PBs broken this evening!

Despite a slightly rough night’s sleep, I was woken up very pleasantly by my Christmas present from Peter.

Clearly I didn’t wake up at 16:49 … I just took this photo now. I’ve wanted one of these lamps for ages. Peter already has one and it’s such a nice way to wake up. By the time that the alarm went off my room was light and I was alert and awake.

Although I’m a little bit sad about having to go back to work, I am glad to be back to my normal eating routine. I made sure that I ate plenty of fruit and vegetables over the holiday, but I ate quite a lot of other stuff as well. I started the day right with a bowl of porridge cooked with oat milk and bananas, with cracked linseed and blackstrap molasses stirred in afterwards.

Actually, I think I’ve had porridge for breakfast nearly every day over the holidays because I felt that I could make at least one part of my day healthy. It’s also a very quick and easy breakfast to make while I’ve been staying at other people’s houses without access to all my normal eats. I’m looking forward to being able to have a smoothie again, but I forgot to put a banana in the freezer last night and I have to have my smoothies with something icy in them.

Now I think I need some inspiration for that run later on …

I asked for a subscription to Runners World for Christmas, and this was waiting for me when I got home last night. In my opinion, magazine subscriptions make brilliant presents and are great value compared to buying one every month. There’s no way that I would shell out £4.50 for a magazine, no matter how good it was!

Have you returned to work today? Are you glad or sad that the holidays are over?

Do you subscribe to any magazines?

I bought runners world and women’s running the other day in the train station and it cost me nearly 9 quid, couldn’t believe it! Subscriptions are definitely the way forward. I don’t subscribe to any at the moment but am toying with the idea of women’s running. Even though I’m not really a runner I really enjoyed reading it and it’s nice to have a magazine to chill out to for a few hours a month. I went back to my uni house and thus uni work today, and I’m bored to tears already. Good luck with your time trial!

I subscribe to Womens Running, and often get runners world- I really should subscribe but I like the offers when you get free things (!) so I keep on waiting for a good one.
It was so windy out there today, good luck with your run (do they put down that it was a super windy day?)- just getting out there in weather like this is a good thing.

I think they do mark any unusual events that might affect times. Once they got chased by dogs (I’m not sure if that made them faster or slower?!)

I’ve been getting some great (and very much needed) sleep over my winter break and I love it! I’m not looking forward to going back to school this upcoming Monday. It’s been SUPER windy here in Germany too… First its rather warm out and now its so windy and really chilly! Whats up with this weather?

What a great way to start the day! I love a good warm bowl of oatmeal! 🙂 I hope you have a great run!
I dont subscribe to any magazines right now.. I dont like any of the German ones..

I’m back at work today, too! Bummer. I actually do like having a routine, but it’s a shame that work has to be part of it 😉

I get some sort of Rachel Ray magazine that I got for free, but I’m not very good about reading it!

I don’t subscribe to any magazines at the moment, but it’s such better value than buying in store! I tend to read their online articles right now due to no funds, but you get so much more in the paper copies!

I can’t wait for these gales to go away, it’s horrible!

It’s so cold here in NJ today. I was offered a job as a crossing guard for the local school, but I’m not sure I could stand being outside. I admire you for running, Sarah!

AGH last night I hardly slept thanks to the wind and rain belting it down outside, I still managed to get up early this morning (thanks to my Lumie lamp) and run on the treadmill – would have been blown away otherwise 😉

I have one of those lights and I love it – it’s made winter mornings a lot more bearable 🙂 I m sure you will soon start to see the benefits!

I find it so hard to get back into the swing of things after a holiday. Today was quite productive considering. Women’s running is great but really expensive!

I pick up Runner’s World every now and again – I really need a subscription. Having access to their online archive must be great too.

I’m back at work today. I was not feeling it at all!

I completely agree, magazine subscriptions are so much better value. Hope your run when ok, it was so horrible last night!
