A Rural Wedding

October 10, 2012

Hello! It’s been a little while since my last post, mostly because I’ve been enjoying myself and then recovering!

My housemate, who is also Peter’s cousin, got married on Saturday. It was a beautiful ceremony and the reception was amazing. The reception was held in her parents’ back garden/paddock in a big shed that was built for the purpose. Afterwards it will be used to keep implements and hay bales. The bride, with the help of family and friends, decorated the whole thing and it was phenomenal. It took a lot of hard work and imagination to make a shed into a beautiful wedding venue.

Food was a huge part of the celebration, especially sweet things, starting with the wedding favours.

This is what we had to eat for the main meal.

The cake was made by Peter’s aunty and was stunning (and huge!). If I remember rightly the tiers were fruit cake, sponge cake, toffee cake and rice cake at the top.

For me, the centre piece of the whole thing was the sweet bar. I went back to this multiple times. There was even some left over when we went on Sunday to take the lights down.

If you hadn’t had your fill during the day, in the evening there was a ploughman’s supper. If you haven’t tried Lincolnshire plum loaf before, I suggest you do. It’s basically a fruit bread and it’s delicious served with butter or with cheese. A crumbly cheese like Cheshire is nicest in my opinion (but I would say that).

We worked some of that off with a little dancing.

It was a really enjoyable weekend and the sugar-hangover was more than worth it. I wore my running clothes all day on Sunday, but didn’t actually make it on a run because I was tired from all the excitement. At least I had good intentions!

That looks like such a lovely wedding, I love all the hand lettering, did they hire someone to do that? Also I love that picture of you and Peter, you look so happy, get it framed!

Wow that looks like the most beautiful wedding! Sometimes I wish I could get married again just so I could plan another party 😉

Oh that is such a lovely picture of the two of you. Those sorts are my favourite- not the posed ones with people grinning at the camera, but they are hard to find!
That wedding looks very pretty too- I love the sort of rustic touches like the checked fabric on the honey, and the chalk board. Wonderful.
